Whitney Merinar

Farmville, VA Advisor

Whitney Merinar earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Early Elementary Education at Armstrong State College, which is now Georgia Southern.  She earned her Master in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and an Ed.S. in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University.  She has almost 25 years of experience in higher education, spanning from academic advising, mentoring, teaching, director of admissions to college registrar.  Most of her experience is with private liberal arts colleges; however, she has also worked at a business college and at Penn State University.

Portrait of Whitney Merinar

Whitney has spent the last twelve years as a college registrar.  That experience has made her an expert in the area of transfer credits, college policies and data analysis.  She has also served as a VA Certifying Official for a college, which gave her an insight into the various types of VA funding available to veterans and their families.

Whitney is very excited to be a part of Optimum Ed.  She has been wanting to work as an educational advisor for almost 20 years, but the timing was never right.  Now that her children are older, she feels that now is the time to start working on her dream/passion – helping families navigate the college/career selection process; and helping students find their passion and succeed.

Whitney is married to an amazing and supportive husband, Jim, and has three children, Josh, Rebekkah and Cassie.  Her family is a swim family, with her husband coaching part time and all three of her kids either swam or are currently swimming.  If you have a swimmer, you will probably see her at swim meets, because they like to travel between South Carolina and Pennsylvania for meets!
